RAITHNEACH / BRACKEN
AG TEACHT GO LUATH
Tá an raithneach ag fás fud fad an oileáin, agus farraige gas ag oscailt go spleodrach sna páirceanna agus ar thaobh na mbóithre san earrach. Déanaim na gais raithní sin a ghearradh agus a bhailiú, agus ansin fágaim iad amuigh ag triomú. Nuair atá siad tirim, dóim baisc acu i m’araid bheag loisceora, agus bailím an luaith amach aisti. Tá an raithneach ina foinse mhaith potaise, le meán-chomhshuíomh 25% (suas le 55%), agus bíonn tionchar láidir aige sin ar an nglónra deiridh a chruthaíonn an luaith.
Tá an glónra Bracken forbartha agam leis an ábhar sin, agus tá gach baisc beagáinín éagsúil leis an gceann roimhe sin, le carachtar ar leith á léiriú ag gach saothair.

COMING SOON
Bracken grows across the island, the fields and roadsides exploding in sea of unfurling fronds in spring. I cut and gather these fronds before leaving them to dry out. Once dry I’ll burn a batch of them in my little incinerator-bin, gathering the ash created. Bracken is known to be a strong source of potash, averaging about 25% composition (up to 55%), and so this plays a strong role in the final glaze the ash creates.
I've developed my Bracken glaze from this material, each batch varying slightly to the previous, and every piece showing its own unique character.
